Dropping into her chair with a sigh, Cadance Dell folded her arms on top of the desk and laid her head down, muttering a stream of barely audible invective.
“Something tells me the meeting didn’t go well.” Joanna Deeks stopped tapping at the keys on her laptop, fingers hovering there as she glanced over at from the desk opposite.
Cadence lifted her head just enough to scowl at her friend. “We work for an ass, you realise this, right?” She put her head back down and resumed her litany of curses.
There was a moment of silence, broken only by the sound of a drawer being opened and closed, and the crinkle of paper. Cadence lifted her head again when she felt a hand on her shoulder, and saw that Joanna had moved to sit on the edge of Cadence’s desk.
“Here, I think you need this more than me.” Joanna held out her hand and smiled in spite of the annoyance twisting in her stomach.
“Your emergency Mars Bar?”
Joanna shrugged. “You look like a woman in need of chocolate. Actually, you look like a woman who seriously needs to get laid, but since I don’t have a hot guy in my desk drawer—and if I did, then I certainly wouldn’t be giving him away—the chocolate will have to do.”
Taking the Mars Bar from her friend, Cadence looked at it for a long minute without opening it, then sighed again and handed it back. “I know that chocolate as a cure for all that ails you is an accepted girl thing, but hon, unfortunately it doesn’t really work for me. Christ, my life officially sucks. My job is a joke, my boss is a first class ass wipe, I don’t like chocolate, and as for getting laid? It’s been so long since I got any action that it’s just embarrassing.”
“Poor baby.” Joanna patted her on the head and returned to her own desk, leaving the Mars Bar within Cadence’s reach. “Tell me all about it.”
