Primal Desire sets up this series wonderfully, and gives the reader a refreshing spin on the shifter sub-genre. The characters, both main and secondary, are well written, and Cole and Nexhan pull you into their story from the beginning. A steady pace and smooth flowing plot captivates readers with lots of suspense and passion. The reader can’t help but get caught up in Nexhan and Cole’s emotionally gripping story as both of them have some deep emotional issues that readers can certainly relate to. Their attraction to each other is hot enough to scorch the Redwood forest where they live, and the sex scenes are not only hot and steamy but magical and healing. All in all, this was a really interesting story. I loved the world. Still, I enjoyed Cole & Nexhan as characters and loved seeing their story unravel and experiencing everything unfold. If you like shifter worlds with rich backgrounds built on old Sumerian legends, if two men who suffer from loneliness and discover they could be each other’s salvation sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a read that is intense, emotional, and contains lots of very hot man-on-man action, then you will probably like this novel. This has a very interesting take on the origins of shifters. The writing is very smooth and the storytelling superb. The differences of the generations was cleverly shown instead of told which only added to the depth of the characters. There were so many fascinating descriptions of meanings to the history of the clan that is told throughout the story as well as the beautiful descriptions of the forest where the clan lives. It seemed, as I was there watching things play out as it happened. There was a lot of drama throughout. Well written with hot sex scenes between Nexhan and Cole throughout the story. I am looking forward to the next book to see what happens next. Good read.
