I received a copy of The Captain’s Snowbound Christmas by Catherine Curzon and Eleanor Harkstead from Pride Publishing. This is the second Christmas story I’ve read this week where the HEA comes courtesy of St. Nicholas in one guise or another. That reflects my need for light holiday tales with an element of fantasy to take me away from this year’s quiet celebration. While I’m not a huge fan of television, it was fun to watch the star and the makeup artist hook up. The spoiler-free mixup reminded me of pantomime and it worked to add some drama to a cute story. I actually have a couple of the captain books on my TBR list and after reading this one they will move up in the pile!

A magical comedy of errors as makeup artist Reuben paints his favorite TV character, gorgeous Captain Firth, aka “Bunny,” who wants to date him! Reuben is a seasoned pro who bites his tongue rather than utter Bunny's signature phrase, “Draw your sword, sir,” until precisely the wrong moment. “Did he just say that? Gape.” Sometimes, knowing a scene is inevitable makes it much more amusing. Authors Curzon and Harkstead keep up the comic tension to perfection, noting every single time he hasn’t uttered the words. And that’s that. Or is it? Anything is possible in this mixture of movie set and reality, magic and mystery. Oh, and don’t forget anticipation… lots and lots of anticipation, which culminates into steamy, non-stop tactile delights, toasting up the ending of this standalone. A quintessential feel-good Christmas smile-on-your-face adult holiday tale, perfect to snuggle in for a night of temptation.
