Review by Susan
I knew almost nothing about Hong Kong before reading Don’t Point at the Moon by Brian Lancaster. I found it totally fascinating and googled a lot of the references. I did not realize Hong Kong and Singapore were so far apart. I enjoy stories about “ugly ducklings’ getting their due in the superficial world. Mitchell is a gay man who looks beyond said superficialities to the person inside. He was a great character to introduce the reader to Hong Kong’s charms. It was interesting to see how hosting his nephew from Britain brought about changes in both of them. Initially I did not care for Tommy, seeing him as just a shallow playboy. In many ways, it is Tommy who changes the most, but both men move forward in their lives. In a very real way the city of Hong Kong is another character in the book and plays a role in the evolving personalities of many of the book’s characters. I received a free copy of the book from Pride Publishing and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
